If I Had The Power to Change Sports

If I had the power to change three things in sports, it’d be: lowering the rim in the WNBA, transfers in college football will have to sit-out a season, and holding referees publicly accountable.

First, I’d lower the rim in the WNBA. The league is already on the rise in the entertainment industry. They’re skilled, physical, and competitive, but lowering the rim would instantly raise the entertainment value. Amplifying the game. Fans would see more dunks, above the rim play, and many viral moments that grow the league’s audience. In Volleyball, the women’s net is lower, and the game thrives because of it. If the WNBA wants higher viewership, stronger engagement, and bigger paydays, this is part of the solution. Growing the audience grows the money.

Second, I’d bring back the rule in CFB that requires players to sit out a year after transferring. The portal has turned roster-building into a free agency, and the constant movement hurts team chemistry. Players should still be allowed to earn NIL money during that sit-out year, but it's on them to maintain their value and sponsorships. Freedom would still exist, but comes with responsibility.

Finally, I’d demand more transparency from officials in college sports. Missed calls can flip games, seasons, and careers, yet referees are rarely asked to explain themselves. Post game reports would build trust and credibility. It’d almost compel officials to be mindful of their calls in the present because they’ll be forced to explain later. Sports thrive on fairness, and accountability shouldn’t stop with players and coaches.

Sports are going to continue to evolve but these changes would push them in the right direction.
